Certification Requirement

APMA Prenatal/Pregnancy Massage Course Requirements

The prenatal/Pregnancy massage course shall be a minimum of 18 hours to include:

  1. Anatomical and Physiologic changes of Pregnancy.
  2. Common pregnancy complications and their relevance to massage.
  3. Benefits of Prenatal Massage
  4. Contraindications for Prenatal Massage.
  5. Treatment specific contraindication or adaptations during pregnancy.
  6. Pregnancy emergencies and course of action related to these conditions.
  7. Changes to positioning required for different stages in pregnancy.
  8. Minimum of 3 hours of hands on learning.
  9. Evaluation criteria for passing course.
  10. Up to 6 hours of individual student practice or study may be included.
  11. Curriculum may be taught through class room lectures, text books, media presentation, or remote training.
